Victorian Front Garden with a Modern Twist
This Front Garden in Palmers Green is our latest Project to be finished.
Before we arrived it was in need of some new life as you can see from below. Having cleaned and repointed the front of the building the owners wanted to spruce up the garden too. They wanted a new path and front wall as well as more space for plants.
The plan we devised is based upon traditional Victorian layout with a rope edged tile path leading up to the front door.
The owners liked the hedge in their old garden so the new path is lined either side with a Euonymus hedge which will grow up to hide the neighbour's adjoining wall which is an eyesore.
The new boundary wall was built with bricks and lime mortar chosen to match the house.
The tiles chosen were Moroccan Encaustic Cement Tiles from www.best-tile.co.uk combined with grey victorian rope edging. In order to make a link between the path and boundary wall, we topped the wall with grey blue bullnose bricks.
A much smarter entrance now.
The garden is north facing and gets no direct sunlight. The plants chosen are all shade lovers and most of them are evergreen.
In the early spring, Snowdrops, Hellebores and Primroses are in flower. These are followed by Astilbes, Geraniums and Liriope. To give structure and height we have included white Hydrangeas and Sarcococca which has the added benefit of a beautiful perfume.
